I have lots of files but I don’t normally organize them well. More often than not, It took me ages to find a particular file (e.g. setup file). The inbuilt windows search functionality may not work so well especially I turned the index off to save hard disk space.
The software [search everything] can be downloaded here: http://www.voidtools.com/support/everything/. It is a free software that currently runs on Windows.
The advantage of this software is that it can index and locate your file almost instantly. The disadvantage is that it takes some extra hard disk space for indexing. It also provides SDK for development so that you can use their quick indexing/search in your applications easily. It can also install [search everything] as a windows service.
After all, it doesn’t hurt giving it a try.

I use WinFindr for this type of action. WinFindr allows you to search for files, folders, registry keys and registry entries with multiple search terms at the same time. You can also search using wildcards and regular expressions. And it is free.
