Podcasts are becoming quite popular these days and for good reason. Many people like to listen to something motivational or useful while on the go. It’s like the radio. You can only listen to a podcast, but it’s a radio that you can pause or download to listen later on.

You can integrate podcasts on your WordPress Site as a way of adding more content and increasing reach for your blog. These podcasts can then be uploaded on Apple Podcasts, Google Play or other podcasting apps.

How to Start a podcast on WordPress Site

Here’s how you can approach podcast properly on your WordPress site:

Choose your Topic

If you already have a blog, you are probably blogging on a topic. Before starting your podcast channel, I recommend you brainstorm 10-15 topics before diving in. This will give you a rough idea of growth for your podcast. Also, you can briefly touch on upcoming topics with your current podcasts to keep the readers interested in more.

For each topic, create a blueprint of what you are going to discuss. Don’t just start recording. You might end up with too many pauses. Planning your content gives your podcast a smooth flow which makes it easier for the listeners.

Invest in Podcasting Equipment

If you want your listeners to take you seriously, you should be investing in basic podcasting equipment. You could record from your phone or computer, but it often results in white, distracting noise. Start with a microphone. Look for microphones that support podcasts. You can find some good ones online on Amazon.

Other than a microphone, you also need software to edit your podcasts. You might want to cut out the unnecessary parts. Adding an intro and outro to the podcast with music in the background also gives it a professional feel. Most editing software takes up a good amount of PC space. To make sure your computer isn’t affected by the new software, free up some disk space. To free up space in your PC or for any other PC issues, visit Techloris.

Prepare your Podcast

The next step is planning and recording the podcast. Start with creating an outline. You can do a rehearsal that will work as a sound check also. Be confident and natural throughout the recording. After the recording, edit your podcast.

Upload and Publish on WordPress

To upload a podcast on WordPress, you will have to install a plugin. The plugin Blubrry PowerPress is popular among professional podcasters. Install and activate the plugin using the plugin menu from the right side of the Dashboard.

You will have to configure the plugin to a media hosting service, such as Blubrry, Libsyn, Podbean, and Spreaker. Go to Powerpress on the right-hand menu of your WordPress Dashboard. Click on setting and select the big button. Enter in your Blubrry login details and press save.

Now before you upload your podcast to WordPress, you will have to upload it to your Blubrry. For this, go to your Blubrry account. Select the podcast dashboard. In the Podcast Hosting section, click on upload new media files. Browse and upload your podcast.

Once the podcast is uploaded on Blubrry, it’s time to upload it to WordPress. Go to Posts > Add New. When the new post page opens, scroll down to the Podcast Episode section. Add a link of your podcast file here. Since your file is on Blubrry, you can click on the ‘Link on Media hosted on Blubrry.com’ to easily link the media file.
Now click on Verify URL to double check it’s the right file.

Optimize Podcast for SEO

The next part of the process is optimizing the podcast for SEO so that it is easily searchable. Start by writing a catchy title to your Podcast Post. If you have Yoast SEO plug-in installed, add meta-description and focus keyword to your post.

You might also want to add a little description to the podcast episode to improve its SEO value. Publish and preview your post.

Submit Podcast to Podcast Directories

If you are starting a podcast, chances are you will want to upload them to the main podcast directories including iTunes or Stitcher. This will greatly improve your chances of getting traffic to your website and improving visibility.

To do this login to your iTunes account or create one if you don’t have it already. Once you are logged in, go to Store, and click on Submit a Podcast at the right side of the menu. Click on Podcasts Connect. Add your Podcast feed URL. Click on validate. If the podcast is in an acceptable version, you can now click on Submit. This will add it to the iTunes library.

Once your podcast is uploaded on both your WordPress site and the iTunes library, it’s time to start promoting it. Use any social media platforms that you have. Collaborate with other bloggers and podcasters to gain exposure. With time, you will be able to monetize your podcast through.
