Steem Witness Replay Time Takes Longer and Longer

I was on holiday last week and when I came back and landed in London, I found out my witness started missing blocks.

I had to do conductor disable to put the node offline and started investigating the issues. The docker has disappeared when I run docker ps and for safety, I reboot my witness server.

./run.sh replay hung for no reasons.

Unlinkable block does not link to known chain.

I then tried to download the data from @gtg using ./run.sh dblocks which took a while to download a few GBs data and uncompress it.

Then, I run ./run.sh replay which took roughly 18 to 22 hours (I felt asleep so I don’t know the exact time). But it definitely took longer to replay than last time which was about 10 hours. According to here, the steem blockchain is currently the largest blockchain in the world and the chain size is increasing rapidly.

Also, it takes less time with enough ram. swapping slows it down and of course, the bigger the blockchain, the slower it is.

I woke up at 3 AM and conductor enable my node:

around 9 minutes later, my node started to produce blocks!

It is also strange that my witness node will be missing blocks approximately once a month. I asked @drakos and he said it could be due to the hardware fault e.g. RAM, and he also suggested me contact the VPS vendor to find out the cause.

Check with your provider if they rebooted the systems or something. it could be anything, faulty ram, etc..

Anyway, I am so glad that my node is back! when I was on holiday, I use my smart phone to check the status of my node, which I don’t think it is a good sign. 🙁
