NUC Hardware Review: Raspberry PI B Plus Model

Raspberry Pi Side View

Today, I got the new Raspberry Pi B+ from Newark. It is Raspberry B Plus model, which is a enhanced/improved version of the Raspberry PI B model.

The royal mail this time did their job properly, so I got this cute little box the next day.

Here it is what it looks like from the rear, and it says the basic specs for this credit-card size PC.

Contents:
Raspberry PI B + Model Featuring:
700 MHz Broadcom BCM2835 CPU with 512 RAM
         40 pin extended GPIO
         Full size HDMI
         4 USB ports
         Micro SD slot

Here is the overview of the differences between B and the B+ model.

What I like most of the B+ model is that it has more USB ports (4 instead of 2 in B model), so for me, I can plug in the USB mouse, USB keyboard, the USB Wifi Adapter and one USB external Hard Drive, without any USB hubs.

Raspberry Pi B+ vs B

The Micro SD slot saves space so you will pretty much the credit card size even when you have SD card inserted.

And, it looks nicer with the round corner:

The enhanced model is said to be more efficiency in power consumption but I don’t care on this one. The price for B plus model is roughly the same with the B model.

On a related note, there will be Element14 exclusive webinar with Eben Upton on 31 July.
