Cloudflare Offers Dedicated SSL Certificates

As we know, the Free Universal SSL is available for all CloudFlare accounts – including the Free accounts. However, the Universal SSL does have limitations: they are only supported on modern OS and browsers e.g. they won’t work on XP and IE6.

The paid accounts remove this limitation but your SSL is still shared with up to 50 other domains. If you want a dedicated SSL certificate for your domain, it is simple to upgrade with $5 per month only.

Do I need to configure the origin server in order to use dedicated SSL certificates?

No, there is no need to make any changes at the origin.

Can a Dedicated SSL certificate be used for multiple domains?

Dedicated SSL Certificates will have to be under the same zone. You can not add host names from different domains to the same Dedicated SSL Certificate. By default, Universal SSL certificates cover just the root domain (helloacm.com) and one level of wildcard (*.helloacm.com). This certificate allows you to add host names/wildcards, for example – 1.2.helloacm.com

Just $5 extra per month, apart from the nice dedicated SSL (which is not so obvious and not many people actually notice and care), it may help pass PCI compliance. But do you think this worth the month?

Just remember, the Free Universal SSL already gives you the green lock (HTTPS) on the browser bar anyway.
